Earth Weave Carpet Mills

100% Natural, Toxin Free Carpet

toxin free carpetWhile many wool carpet and area rug manufacturers tout themselves to be “green” for using a renewable resource, Earth Weave Mills is the only American manufacturers to have implemented sustainability practices into the design of their product that exceed the inherent nature of the wool surface. Earth Weave rugs and carpets are 100% natural, 100% non-toxic, 100% bio-degradable and 100% renewable. Their commitment to sustainability lies not in recycling petrochemical products, but rather in taking advantage of the ultimate manufacturer; Mother Nature and her renewable natural resources.

Earth Weave carpets and area rugs come in four colors and four styles, ranging from 30 ounce weight to 44 ounce weight wool. As a part of their commitment to sustainability, Earth Weave does not use dyes or stains. The colors are achieved by blending the natural colors of the wool as they grow on the sheep’s back. Additionally, Earth Weave carpets and area rugs are made without any use of unnecessary chemical stain protectors and moth proofing; by nature, wool repels liquid, the most common culprit of stains. As for moth proofing, today’s homes just don’t need it.

The Product

Earth Weave starts by using only pure, untreated British Isles wool. (At Greenovations, promoting a product derived from British Isles wool over New Zealand wool is an added benefit. All things equal, we always choose a resource closer to our New Hampshire home.) The next layer, the primary is made from an industry first blend of hemp and cotton. Earth Weave is the only carpet company to incorporate an all natural primary backing that is specifically designed for use in their bio-degradable floor covering. The wool yarns are locked into place using an all natural, VOC free adhesive derived from the rubber tree. Finally, the backing of the carpet is made from jute, a material commonly used in the industry prior to the introduction of synthetic backings.

At Home: Health

Wool is naturally stain-resistant and fire-resistant, so there is no need for added chemical treatments.

Wool fibers have microscopic scales that capture and hold dust particles until they are vacuumed. This results in less dust in the air, a boon for people who suffer from allergies. Some studies have shown that wool carpet may also help purify the air by absorbing certain common indoor contaminants, including formaldehyde, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide. Wool takes in these contaminants far more quickly and completely than synthetic carpets do.
