AFM Safecoat paints are frequently recommended by doctors and used in hospitals. For 25 years AFM has been manufacturing non-toxic paints for chemically sensitive people; since long before the public realm’s recent consciousness of VOC’s in paint. What’s more, AFM has filled the gap where VOC regulation has failed. Many other unregulated toxins are found in so called no-VOC paints, such as ammonia, benzene, certain heavy metals and acetone, but not in AFM products. As well, VOC’s address outdoor pollutants; they do not completely address indoor air quality. Only AFM does.

AFM Safecoat paint was literally designed to create a “safe coat” to seal surfaces that may out-gas harmful pollutants contained in conventional construction materials. AFM is the recipient of the Scientific Certification System’s Indoor Air Quality Gold Certification, an honor few paint manufacturers can hope to obtain.

In 2010, AFM Safecoat introduced their newest product, Naturals, an organic and biodegradable, paint made from natural plant oils. Naturals performs like a premium oil paint—it’s made from oils after all—but it is water soluble, so it’s easy to use and easy to clean. Available in a flat or pearl finish. Naturals is AFM’s answer to the misconceptions about VOC’s. Many unregulated toxins that negatively affect indoor air quality are common in no VOC paints. Though Natural’s has an aliphatic ingredient that that does contribute to smog in an infinitesimal manner (after all, wood stoves do, too) Naturals paint is completely non-toxic.
